Two Historic Aircraft Coming to Hulman Field this Summer
From June 12th to 15th, the EAA's beautifully restored Ford Tri-Motor will visit Terre Haute
for the first time. Residents will have the opportunity to take a ride back in time
on an aircraft that made aviation history. The visit will be hosted by your local EAA
Chapter 83. For more information including at history of the aircraft and the costs
for flights, please go to the Tri-Motor web site at: http://www.eaa.org/fordtrimotor/
Then in July, from the 14th to the 17th, the EAA's outstanding Boeing B-17G, Aluminum
Overcast, will visit. One of the three heavy bombers that helped turn the tide of
WWII, the B-17 is one of the most famous aircraft ever produced. It was a monster of
its time with 4 radial engines turning out over 4,800 horsepower turning propellers
almost 12 feet in diameter. It carried 5,000 to 8,000 lbs of bombs and had 13, 50 caliber
machine guns for protection from fighter attack. It could fly over 1,800 miles on a
normal fuel load and typically had a crew of 10. You can fly on this historic aircraft
Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday morning, or Thursday morning, July 14th, 15th, and 16th,
and it will also be open for ground tours on the 15th and 16th in the afternoons and evenings.
