In 1995, the Chapter had one of its highlights when it was visited by Burt Rutan. Mr. Rutan even flew from Sky King Airport to Butler Field in Rockville with Tom Flock in one of Tom's Wacos. It was certainly a thrill for all of us to meet Burt, but no one was more thrilled than Keith Welsh, when after Burt inspected his Quickie at Sky King, he wrote in Keith's POH that it was the best Quickie he had ever seen. And Burt has seen a few Quickies in his day.
During these years before the Internet, the Chapter Newsletter was the main instrument of communication for the members. Chapter 83 Newsletter Editors through the years have included Herb Massey, Pete Peterson, Ray Olinger, Darrell Gibson, and Keith Welsh. Back in the day, the officer positions were often swapped around, so most of these guys were also president at one time or another.
The 90's also saw the advent of the full fly-out meeting schedule. Chapter 83 has held meetings at Clinton, Aeroplanes, Tom Flock's Waco Factory, Brazil, Winter's Airpark, Casey, Shawnee, Sullivan, Ivy Tech at HUF, ISU, Rose-Hulman, Greencastle, the Shepardsville Fire House, and Don Bussart's airstrip.
